From: Earle Martin Date: 11:10 on 12 Mar 2007 Subject: Nero's obnoxious modification of your Start Menu The Windows XP machine that I have at home came with Nero, a utility for burning CD-ROMs and DVDs. It is, overall, an excellent piece of software, and I have yet to have any problem with using it. However. I'm one of those people who doesn't like having an eight-levels-deep Programs folder in my Start Menu crammed with dozens of disorganized items. I've sorted mine out to sub-folders called Accessories, Applications, Games, Internet, Multimedia and Utilities. Nero, being a utility, goes under Utilities. As you might expect. Every time you run Nero, it creates a "Nero" folder in the Programs folder of the Start Menu. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. There's no option that I could find to stop it doing that. THANKS A FUCKING LOT, NERO, YOU STUPID WANKERS. P.S. Here is some bonus Nero hate! http://iamyouruser.blogspot.com/2006/12/neros-nuts-i-want-to-kick.html

There's a lot of hate in the "creates obnoxious directories/files where they are unwated over and over" category. From Gnome spewing ~/Desktop which I never use, to old windows things I used to use which created some misinformed TEMP of their own in C:\ (eg C:\STUPID.TEMP) to various tos utilities that would create index files in every directory.. I understand the mac finder still drops a turd in every directory it touches. I really wish filessystems supported the "no such file/directory may be created, EVER" feature to allow me some way to fight back against binaries I have little control over. Hmm... This gives me an idea for FUSE. -josh

Sounds like you're going to write some hateful software based on some hateful kernel software in order to combat existing software hatefulness... that doesn't seem like a winning strategy to me. Be sure to ask "is that really what I want to be doing?" before you invest much effort. Regards,

Fire with fire, baby! (At least I wouldn't inflict my hateful junk on anyone else.) But come now, I haven't experienced any hatefulness with FUSE. What have I been missing out on? -josh

What he said. But if you encounter any specific hatefulness while monkeying with FUSE, be sure to tell us. Regards,

So much as I appreciate good Software Hate, I have to wonder what else he did while he was cargo-culting his install of Nero.

That's no excuse for subjecting his readers to that stuff, unless he's trying to make his GF look bad.
