Download a newer version!" and promptly quits. No, you stupid turd of a programmer, I *know* it's out-of-date - what you've failed to realise is that _I don't care_. In fact, I'm using an out-of-date operating system right now, on out-of-date hardware. In this particular case, for a Mac Jabber client called TVJab, both of them were made before your cruddy little program even existed. So don't go telling me that your program is TOO OLD TO RUN, because compared to everything else I use happily it's still a mewling whelp, wriggling and shitting in its diapers. Please hold still whilst I jam this screwdriver into your eye socket. Thanks.

Don't you just hate email clients that let you write messages like this and immediately jeopardy-quote the whole offending signature immediately after your complaint, wasting bandwidth and making you look foolish?

But that just brings you right to the next level: software that says "This version has expired! Download a newer version!" and quits, and there's no newer version because the programmer and/or his company has expired.

Don't forget also the software that expires and you can't install it because it now has more requirements than you can handle: MSN Messenger on my old Mac - as used by my younger brother who is not very geeky and just uses it because it works well (which surprises me for a Microsoft app) - is now refusing to run, announcing that we must upgrade to the newest version. The newest version only works on OS X. Upgrading the entire OS on this box just for some shitty IM client is a no-no, not least because that's a very shaky prospect on this hardware. Fucking wankers! Thankfully, Jabber-MSN transports seem to work OK (another reason to be using TVJab, which started this thread).
